In the comments section of a recent Beeserker strip, I mentioned something about a theoretical bearkeeper that they'd need to hire to mass produce Trigona's flamethrower. Anyway, someone on Tumblr asked me to draw said bearkeeper, which I did, even though she's pretty much a fluffier Trigona. Also, I'm sure "bearkeeper" isn't the proper term.

Waddle Dee Spy Part Deux

Almost three and a half years ago, I drew a group of video game characters that vaguely resembled Waddle Dees. A couple of months ago, someone asked me to draw another version with some more impostor Waddle Dees. I had been sitting on the question for a while, fully meaning to draw it some time, when yesterday, I finally got Pushmo, and quickly realized "hey, this Mallo guy is pretty much a sumo Waddle Dee!" which was the sign that I finally had to draw this updated version.

Ok, now my Pushmo-induced 3DS headache has died down... time to play it some more.

One of my many flaws as a digital artist is that I constantly use the same brush - a perfectly round one. Brushes can be shaped like anything I want, and I should be taking advantage of that more. Today's drawing is me messing around with a square brush; it makes a pretty cool looking line, though it gets a bit wonky when you begin a line or make a sharp angle.

The following is a long-winded summary of many of my Beeserker-related tweets from this week, cobbled into a story. Sorry.

I've been messing around with the Beeserker site a bit this week. One of the changes was the background - it used to be bees over solid grey (the same one I use on my Twitter and Tumblr pages), but I added the comic's ubiquitous pipes, in addition to the bees. I was worried that it looked cluttered, and it did, so I got rid of the bees and kept the pipes, another move that I would immediately question, because after all, the comic's called Beeserker, not Pipeserker. This would lead me to actually drawing Pipeserker: the robot powered by pipes. It looks just like the Beeserker, but wears an argyle sweater vest and smokes a pipe.

So the week is coming to an end, and all I have to show for it is a slightly reskinned site, a little more CSS knowledge, and a drawing of another tobacco-dependent robot.

Today I answered a few Tumblr questions from my ever-expanding backlog of them.

On a related note, I've recently been thinking - I created this blog as an inspiration/self-imposed obligation to draw every day, but between my Tumblr questions and Beeserker, I'm drawing on most days anyway, but still putting new stuff here. For some reason, it feels like cheating to me to recycle content from those sites into this one (but not enough to keep me from doing it from time to time). Now, I'll admit that I haven't exactly drawn every day since it started, but for the last three and a half years, I've managed to make daily posts on BTI containing some sort of art I've done; if my calculations are right, it's been almost 1300 consecutive days.

I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to say here - perhaps it's that as the days go on, I'm seeing less and less of a reason to keep Burn The Internet going on the way it is. Mind you, I'm not going to immediately stop posting every day; throwing away a 1300 day streak on a whim seems rather wasteful. I actually did mildly entertain an idea for a new year's resolution - "embark on some sort of project great enough that I could justify to myself and others not drawing something for BTI every day."

My apologies to anyone who got lured in by doodles of long dogs only to wind up having to read my ramblings about what this blog may or may not mean to me. It's just something that I've had circling around in my head for a while that I needed to get down into writing. One of these days, I'll figure out what it all means and what I have to do to keep from having to write stuff like this...

In the meantime, I have an ImPokédex to finish.

I'm working my way through the 3DS ambassador games, and started playing Mario vs. Donkey Kong yesterday. For some reason, I never played it when it first came out, even though I love Donkey Kong '94. Yes, MvDK is ugly as sin, and Mario talks a lot even by GBA standards, but it plays just like the old Game Boy DK game, and is kind of amazing.

I've been playing Super Mario 3D Land for a good part of this afternoon, and I'm starting to feel like they're laying the Super Mario 3 nostalgia on pretty thick. I do enjoy seeing the classic 2D art style in those letters, though; usually any official 2D Mario art nowadays is based on Paper Mario.

Today I drew another obscure SNES-era Mario boss, Yoshi's Island's Raphael the Raven. I'm still a bit peeved that he didn't make an appearance in either Super Mario Galaxy game, since they're both pretty much based on that battle with him.
