Going a bit late today, so I just drew as many bees as I could fit on a 500 x 500 canvas.

Today's Drawing - Green Grass and High Tides
Yesterday, in a valiant effort, I beat the last 2 tiers of Guitar Hero II in expert, something i hadn't been able to do previously. Being on a roll, I then went on to the only song in Rock Band that I hadn't been able to beat on expert guitar, Green Grass and High Tides. Six or seven tries later, still stuck at 85%...Edit: As of 12:45 pm today, I have finished GGaHT on expert. May the above picture now be a monument to my triumph, rather than my frustration.

This is either Grimace riding a giant corgi or a miniature Grimace riding a corgi. I haven't decided which is worse yet.

Today's Drawing - Item Enhancement
Part 2 of my talking 1UPs series. This time they meet the merchant from Resident Evil 4, who is more than eager to sell them items. He must assume the Extra Mario has 100 coins or something (damn, that would've been a good punchline too). Anyway, I'm just delaying the inevitable here. See the full comic after the jump.

Today's Drawing - The Hippo Prince
According to the most recent Captain Rainbow trailers, Punch-out's Little Mac has gained a lot of weight since winning the WVBA title. Now he bears a passing resemblance to a certain Major Circuit opponent, who also happens to live on an island.

Today's Drawing - 2-Up
I decided to go back to my "roots" and make a comic for today. It chronicles the adventures of two self-aware extra lives lamenting their own existence. Don't worry, this won't last too long. See the full comic after the jump.

Today's Drawing - Heavy vs. Luigi

Today's drawing is of Weegee being chased by one of those flashing Bullet Bills from Mario 3. The Heavy Weapons Guy somehow takes credit for it.

Today's Drawing - Happy Monthaversary
A month ago, Burn The Internet was created. Normally I wouldn't put much significance in that kind of milestone, but it's also my birthday, so if I can kill 2 birds with one stone (or cake), all the better. Thanks to everyone who visited so far, and made this blog a marginal success.

Today's Drawing - Super Mario Colors
Recognize this Mario in a dashing and unique blue hat? It's Mario's sprite palette from the arcade version of Mario Bros.! For a long time, Nintendo had only a few colors in which to display Mario in games, and couldn't quite decide on which ones to use. As a result, Mario's had some bizarre hair colors and overalls that switch from red to blue and back faster than Porygon. Today's drawing is an Andy Warhol-like study of his sprite palette changes between Donkey Kong and Super Mario World (16 bits resolved this issue rather quickly). I even threw in his various fire flower colors. Click the Mario on the left to see the full chart, or see it after the jump.

DVD Alphabetization
I was moving my DVDs to a new shelf, and I was confronted with my recurring dilemma regarding how I am supposed to arrange them. I normally sort them alphabetically, but there's much ambiguity in the matter. First off, I disregard the articles "A" and "The" in front of every title. More confusingly though, I have several DVDs whose titles begin with numbers, and I never know whether I should put 8 Mile before or after The 40 Year Old Virgin; 40 is a bigger number, but the frontmost digit in 40 is a 4, which goes before 8. Even worse, I have Pi on DVD, and it's shown as that Greek letter they use to represent a tiger in ZZT. Do I arrange this based on the latin alphabetical interpretation, and place it with the other "P"s, or as the numeric value, up front with the aforementioned numbered movies, or simply put it in front like a computer would organize it, since it's a special character.
These are the trials that I endure every day.

Special Thanks to 4CR!
Recently, 4 Color Rebellion featured my Pikmin drawing as their Image of the Day, and within the last couple of hours, I've gotten more hits to this blog than in the rest of the time it's been up combined. So if you're one of the few people who came here from somewhere other than 4CR, be sure to give them a visit; they have a bunch of news about video games and other entertaining miscellanea. They're pretty much the reason I own Break 'Em All, the only Breakout clone that lets you evolve into Jesus.

Today's Drawing - Pikmin Captains
Miyamoto kinda confirmed a new Pikmin game at E3 a couple days ago, making it simultaneously the greatest news and quietest news to come from the convention. This drawing is my prediction for what the new game has in store.

Today's Drawing - Mew Squared
I've been working for several hours on today's drawing, of Mew from Jet Grind Radio and the Pokémon Mew; that's right, their shared name is the only premise for the drawing. It's the kind of drawing that I almost liked better as a sketch, so I've included a couple preliminary sketches after the jump.more...
Initial sketch. Originally, the Mew on the left looked like a short giraffe, then a pig, and now a pig fetus. That's when I learned that in reality, Mew looks just like a pig fetus.
Traced the sketch, and tried to mess around with line value, not unlike with the Homer drawing yesterday.
Flat color added, and Mew's nose made less piglike. Usually this would be where I stop for BTI drawings, but every once in a while I've nothing better to do, so I poured another 2 hours into it to make the final drawing.

A More Offensive Pondering
There's something that's circled my head a few times, but I could never come up with an answer myself, and never really felt it appropriate to ask others their opinions about it.
Anyway, which is more offensive: saying that the Holocaust never happened, or that the Holocaust was way awesome?*
*Not that I'm supporting either one, I'm just a morbidly curious individual.

Today's Drawing - Sun Fight
Today it dawned on me - both Mario and Kirby have evil bastard suns in their lives that exist only to mess them up. I started playing around with the airbrush today; the picture needed some degree of complexity, and 3 of the characters in it are pretty much circles.

Today's Drawing - Hammer Suit Mario
Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of my favorite games, but there's one thing about them that's always bothered me. Hammer Suit Mario, one of the best power-ups in this or any game, is fireproof in the crouching position, and can kill pretty much everything by tossing hammers in an arc. "Everything" includes bosses, Thwomps, and even ghosts. Turtles and stone monsters, of course they would crumble under the force of a hammer*, but why the hell can hammers kill ghosts? It seems slightly more logical for fireballs to do that; if I was a ghost, I would be a lot more likely to avoid extreme heat capable of dispersing gaseous bodies than a metal sledge on a stick I could easily pass through. For years I haven't been able to obtain a satisfying reason for this.*No, I haven't hit any turtles with hammers to support this hypothesis.

Today's Drawing - Captain Rainbow HOOOOOoooo!
I saw the trailer for Nintendo's new game, Captain Rainbow, and figured I could have the dubious honor of making one of the first fanarts, and if I can throw in an HG reference, even better.Edit: Elroy just answered my recent pondering about that Nevermind baby, and in some bizarre coincidence, it was his birthday when I made that post. Happy belated birthday, Nevermind baby!

A Pondering
I was wondering yesterday: whatever happened to that baby on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind album? The naked one chasing the dollar underwater. Based on the release date, he must be around 18 now. I wonder if being on that cover helps or hinders him getting a date; I can picture him trying to defend himself day after day - "Hey, it was cold water... and I was an f'n baby!"
